Turnarounds are measured in scheduled shutdown windows and vessels are stamped to ASME code — licensed, site-bound work in which the plant, not the contractor, sets the calendar.
Energy & Chemicals is Singapore's process industry, clustered on Jurong Island and the estates that feed it — Gul, Tuas and Boon Lay Way. JTC counts more than 100 companies on Jurong Island; the Singapore Chemical Industry Council lists over 170 members. Research verifies four capabilities and one restored operator layer.
Specialty chemicals is the deepest, with 17 producers running documented Jurong Island plants — global majors alongside a thin independent layer. Process equipment covers 16 fabricators of pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks, process skids and pipe spools, several holding ASME U, U2 and S stamps. Plant maintenance spans 18 firms doing shutdowns, turnarounds, decoking, catalyst handling and scaffolding-insulation-painting for refineries and petrochemical plants; the trade names itself, unlike generic facilities work. Process plant engineering and construction adds seven petrochemical EPC contractors — several Singapore-native firms whose licensing and listings are built around the work, plus operating subsidiaries with decades of Jurong and Bukom track record.
The buyers are refineries, petrochemical plants and bulk-liquid terminals. The work is heavy, licensed and site-bound — turnarounds measured in scheduled shutdown windows, vessels stamped to code, terminals holding land and jetty infrastructure that keeps the operator roster foreign-MNC and Jurong Port joint ventures.
Formulation of crop-protection products — fungicides, herbicides and insecticides — for Southeast Asian agriculture, built on formulation technology rather than large-scale active-ingredient synthesis. Buyers read a producer on formulation capacity and technology, active-ingredient portfolio, registration and regional proximity.
The enabling chemistry of the refining and petrochemical complex — catalysts for cracking, hydroprocessing and synthesis, adsorbents and molecular sieves, plus spent-catalyst regeneration and precious-metal recovery. Buyers read the field on what is genuinely made or reclaimed in Singapore versus marketed from here.
Applied-chemistry manufacture serving construction, industrial and manufacturing markets — architectural and protective paints, epoxy, polyurethane and acrylic resins, construction chemicals, and adhesives and sealants. Buyers read a producer on confirmed Singapore manufacturing, product range and specification approvals.
The pricing, financing and physical-flow centre for crude oil, refined products, LNG, petrochemicals and commodities — one of Asia’s key price-discovery hubs. A borderline fit for an industrial record: read a trading house on physical-flow scale, product coverage and Singapore-desk seniority, and lead with the industrially-anchored names.
The high-purity, high-value edge of the chemical economy — specialty intermediates, amino acids and fine chemicals, and the ultra-pure process chemicals, reagents and fillers that feed the semiconductor cluster. Buyers read a producer on product purity and grade, confirmed Singapore manufacturing, semiconductor qualification and capacity.
The creative houses and aroma-chemical operations that formulate scents and tastes for consumer goods across Asia-Pacific, treating Singapore as both a manufacturing base and an APAC creative and innovation hub. Buyers read an F&F house on production capacity and format, creative and sensory depth, and regional reach and certification.
Production of sustainable aviation fuel, renewable diesel, hydrogen, ammonia and green methanol, plus the hydrogen-ready power designed to burn them. Buyers and the regulator read this pillar on confirmed production capacity, fuel type, project maturity (operating versus FEED or pilot) and hydrogen-readiness.
Production and supply of industrial gases — oxygen, nitrogen, argon, hydrogen, carbon dioxide and acetylene — delivered as bulk cryogenic liquid, compressed cylinders, on-site generation or pipeline. Purity ranges from industrial to high-purity electronic grades. Buyers select on supply mode, purity grade and delivery reliability.
Installation, calibration and commissioning of instrumentation and control systems for process plants: field instruments, control valves, analysers, DCS, PLC and safety instrumented systems. Work covers electrical and instrumentation (E&I) erection and loop checking to IEC 61511. Buyers select on functional-safety competence and calibration traceability.
LNG import, regasification and gas supply infrastructure — the terminals, tanks and piped-gas networks that feed a power system running almost entirely on natural gas. Buyers and the regulator read this pillar on terminal throughput and storage (Mtpa, cubic metres), import licensing and low-carbon readiness.
Base-oil production and finished-lubricant blending for automotive, industrial and marine markets. Buyers read a player on base-oil group (I/II/III), blending capacity, product range, API licensing and OEM approvals, and jetty and terminal logistics.
Renewable-feedstock chemistry from palm and other vegetable oils — fatty acids, fatty alcohols, glycerine, methyl esters, soap noodles, specialty fats, surfactants and biodiesel. Buyers read a producer on feedstock integration, product breadth, sustainability certification (RSPO) and plant capacity.
Steam cracking of naphtha into olefins and aromatics, and the downstream plants that convert them into polymers and intermediates — polyethylene, polypropylene, synthetic rubbers, MMA/PMMA, phenol/BPA and styrenics. Buyers read a producer on product grade, capacity, feedstock integration and technology licence.
Crude-oil refining into transport fuels, base oils, bitumen and petrochemical feedstock. Buyers and partners read a refinery on crude capacity (barrels per day), configuration and conversion complexity, downstream integration, and decarbonisation trajectory.
Fabrication and installation of process piping and mechanical equipment for plants and terminals: pipe-spool fabrication, welding, non-destructive testing, hydrotesting and mechanical erection. Materials range from carbon steel to stainless and alloy grades to ASME B31.3. Buyers select on welder qualification, NDT capability and shutdown availability.
Scheduled and breakdown maintenance of process plants at refineries, petrochemical and specialty-chemical sites, including turnaround (TAR) and shutdown execution, mechanical and rotating-equipment overhaul, and statutory inspection. Work runs to fixed shutdown windows under permit-to-work control. Buyers select on WSH record, manpower scale and turnaround experience.
The gencos that convert imported natural gas into electricity through combined-cycle and cogeneration plants concentrated on Jurong Island and at Senoko. Buyers and the regulator read a genco on capacity (MW) and technology (CCGT, cogeneration), market share, ownership and hydrogen-readiness.
Manufacture, blending and distribution of specialty chemicals — additives, catalysts, surfactants, coatings, lubricants and reagents — supplied in bulk, drum or IBC. Handling follows GHS labelling and safety-data-sheet control with regulated transport. Buyers select on product grade, storage and licensing, and Responsible Care participation.
Construction, inspection, repair and cleaning of bulk storage tanks and terminals for petroleum, petrochemical and chemical products. Work covers welded tanks to API 650, in-service inspection and repair to API 653, floating and fixed roofs, and bunding. Buyers select on API certification, tank-cleaning method and safety record.
Companies shaping the sector
Nordmann Singapore manufactures high-purity acrylate and methacrylate speciality monomers for contact-lens and intraocular-lens makers at a purpose-built plant in the JTC Chemicals Hub at Tuas South, with purification, blending, re-packing, toll manufacturing and a local warehouse. ISO 9001:2015 certified, it is the production facility of Nordmann, the family-owned Hamburg chemical-distribution group founded in 1912.
