Nordmann Singapore
Nordmann Singapore manufactures high-purity acrylate and methacrylate speciality monomers for contact-lens and intraocular-lens makers at a purpose-built plant in the JTC Chemicals Hub at Tuas South, with purification, blending, re-packing, toll manufacturing and a local warehouse. ISO 9001:2015 certified, it is the production facility of Nordmann, the family-owned Hamburg chemical-distribution group with 2024 turnover of about €517 million.
Nordmann is a Hamburg trading house — family-owned since 1912, twenty-four subsidiaries across Europe, Asia and North America, roughly €517 million in 2024 turnover — and nearly everywhere on that map it distributes other producers' chemicals. Tuas South is the exception. There, Nordmann Singapore runs the group's production facility for the optical and biomaterials industries, manufacturing high-purity acrylate and methacrylate monomers for materials that end up in the human eye. Few applications punish an impurity harder; that is precisely the segment this plant chose.

Chemistry for the human eye
The plant at 4 Tuas South Drive manufactures high-purity acrylate and methacrylate speciality monomers — the reactive building blocks that polymerise into contact-lens and intraocular-lens materials. Nordmann supplies lens makers across all four of the industry's material classes: hydrogel, silicone hydrogel, rigid gas permeable in both low- and high-Dk formulations, and intraocular lens materials in hydrophilic and hydrophobic options.
Around that monomer core, the company supplies the rest of a lens maker's raw-material list — crosslinkers, UV blockers, tints and silicone macromers — and will tailor materials to a customer's specified purity and inhibitor levels rather than sell only off-the-shelf grades. In a market where the largest producers work to fixed specifications, the plant positions itself on customisation: matching the material to the customer's process, not the other way round.
A plant, not a depot
For a subsidiary of a distribution group, it is worth stating plainly what the Tuas South site actually is: a purpose-built speciality chemical manufacturing facility, not a warehouse with an office attached. The plant purifies contact-lens raw materials, blends raw materials, re-packs material from drums to bottles, develops and scales up new products, and runs toll and contract manufacturing for customers. A local warehouse supports supply.
The site sits inside the JTC Chemicals Hub at Tuas South, where the company moved in 2020 after outgrowing two previous premises in Singapore. The operation is certified to ISO 9001:2015 — the certificate for Nordmann Singapore Pte. Ltd is published on the group's own downloads page — and the company is a member of the Singapore Chemical Industry Council.
From Melrob to Nordmann
The plant was built up as Melrob Singapore, the manufacturing site of the Crawley-based Melrob Group, a UK distributor of industrial chemicals, monomers and biomaterials that ran its own speciality monomer production in Singapore. When Nordmann, Rassmann of Hamburg acquired Melrob Group Holdings in 2017, the deal brought subsidiaries in eight countries — and with them, the Singapore plant — into the German group, extending its reach across Asia-Pacific and North America. On 1 October 2021, under the group's one-brand strategy, Melrob Singapore became Nordmann Singapore Pte. Ltd.
The reporting line still runs through Britain: the plant sits within the Nordmann UK Group, which supports the marketing and distribution activities of its subsidiaries and manages the Singapore production facility. The customer base is global — the company names Central America, Germany, Japan, Thailand and Singapore itself as the locations of key customers.
The trading house behind it
Nordmann was founded in Hamburg in 1912 by Eduard Nordmann and Fritz Rassmann to import and trade natural rubber and raw cacao. More than a century on it remains 100 per cent family-owned, part of Georg Nordmann Holding AG, and has grown into a chemical-distribution group of 24 subsidiary companies across Europe, Asia and North America — 586 employees, a sales force of 300, and turnover of about €517 million in 2024, distributing natural and chemical raw materials, additives and speciality chemicals into 23 industries.
Within that group, Singapore holds an unusual position. Distribution businesses sell other people's chemistry; this one also makes its own, and it does so in Tuas. For a buyer, the practical consequence is a supplier with a distributor's global network behind a manufacturer's plant — and for Singapore, it is one more case of a European group placing its highest-specification production here.
