Marine, Offshore & Port

The assurance layer of the maritime hub — classification societies, marine surveyors, warranty surveyors, loss adjusters and NDT and inspection firms that certify ships and offshore units to code.

Buyers select on recognised-organisation status, class scope and surveyor specialisation. The companies on the record holding this capability are collected on the Singapore Industry Index’s list of Leading marine survey & classification companies in Singapore.

The field

Marine survey and classification is the assurance layer of the maritime hub — the classification societies, marine surveyors, warranty surveyors, loss adjusters and NDT/inspection firms that certify that ships and offshore units are built and maintained to code. Singapore concentrates this capacity because it concentrates the ships: the port handles more than 130,000 vessel calls a year, reached a record 3.22 billion gross tonnes of arrival tonnage, and the Singapore Registry of Ships is among the world's largest, with more than 200 international shipping groups based locally. That traffic sustains dense demand for class surveys, statutory certification, hull inspection and marine consultancy. The buyer reads the market on recognised-organisation status (whether a class society is authorised for Singapore-flag statutory work), class scope (ships, offshore units, FPSOs), and — for independent surveyors — specialisation (marine warranty survey, casualty/loss adjusting, NDT, geotechnical).

The field is led by the major classification societies, all of which run substantial Singapore operations even though they are foreign-HQ: DNV located its Asia-Pacific headquarters and technology centre in Singapore, and ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, ClassNK, RINA and Korean Register all maintain survey offices — eight class societies signed a letter of intent with the MPA on maritime digitalisation and decarbonisation. Beneath the class societies sits a layer of marine surveyors and consultants — the homegrown independent IMS Marine Services, plus foreign-linked Braemar, Solis Marine (marine warranty survey, casualty response, naval architecture), Constellation Marine and Aries Marine — and an NDT/inspection tier (TÜV SÜD, Applus+, ANSA Veritas, and geotechnical specialist Geonamics for offshore-wind foundations). Diving-based UWILD specialists such as Master-Tech, whose surveys are class-accepted, straddle this slug and underwater services. The record should carry the class societies for completeness while giving due prominence to the homegrown surveyors.
