Precision grinding services in Singapore

Abrasive machining that removes material to achieve tight tolerances and fine surface finishes on hardened parts. Types include surface, cylindrical, centreless and jig grinding. Materials include hardened tool steel, carbide and ceramics. Buyers select on tolerance, surface finish and part geometry.

Grinding is where precision engineering earns its name — the operation that holds tolerances milling and turning cannot. Buyers evaluate a shop on a narrow band of specifications. First is grinding type: surface grinding for flatness and parallelism, cylindrical grinding (external and internal) for shafts and bores, centreless grinding for high-volume pins and bar stock, internal grinding for precision bores, and jig grinding for located holes and profiles in moulds and dies. Second is tolerance — the best Singapore operators quote accuracy down to ±1–2 µm. Third is surface finish, measured as roughness average (Ra) and pushed below Ra 0.05 µm on fine-ground faces. Fourth is material: hardened tool steel (to about HRC 65), tungsten carbide (to about HRA 92), ceramics and exotic alloys — chosen precisely because they resist everything except an abrasive wheel. ISO 9001, and AS9100 for aerospace, are the entry ticket.

In Singapore, grinding rarely stands alone: it sits as a finishing discipline inside broader precision engineering shops that also run CNC milling, turning and wire-cut EDM, converting a hardened, heat-treated blank into a finished tool. The work feeds mould and die making, semiconductor equipment, aerospace and MRO, medical devices and precision optics, clustered in Tuas, Ubi, Ang Mo Kio (Techplace) and Woodlands.
