Industrial gases in Singapore

Production and supply of industrial gases — oxygen, nitrogen, argon, hydrogen, carbon dioxide and acetylene — delivered as bulk cryogenic liquid, compressed cylinders, on-site generation or pipeline. Purity ranges from industrial to high-purity electronic grades. Buyers select on supply mode, purity grade and delivery reliability.

A Singapore buyer sourcing industrial or specialty gas works down a fixed stack: supply mode (on-site/pipeline for continuous high-volume users, bulk liquid for mid-volume, cylinder for intermittent), reliability and back-up/redundancy (interconnected plants and pipeline loops that keep oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen flowing when one unit trips), ASU and pipeline reach on Jurong Island (whether a supplier can pipe atmospheric gases directly to a plot rather than truck them), and for fabs, specialty/electronic-gas purity and handling (semiconductor-grade gases, on-site delivery systems, and safe handling of toxic/pyrophoric species). The commodity gases — oxygen, nitrogen, argon from air-separation units (ASUs), plus hydrogen, syngas/carbon monoxide, CO2, helium and acetylene — are near-interchangeable on molecule; buyers therefore choose on network density, uptime record and the ability to co-locate an on-site plant behind the fence.

Singapore's industrial-gas industry is unusually concentrated at the top and genuinely thin below it. Four global majors run the anchor infrastructure on Jurong Island and account for the overwhelming majority of production capacity: Air Liquide (via SOXAL) operates six air-separation plants linked by over 200 km of pipeline (about 4,200 tons/day) plus a world-scale 100,000 nm³/h hydrogen plant and an electronics specialty-materials centre; Linde runs one of Asia's largest integrated hydrogen/carbon-monoxide complexes, quadrupled under a ~USD 1.4 billion ExxonMobil supply deal; Air Products holds an ASU and a Sakra-to-Tembusu pipeline plus a Senoko helium/electronics-gas site. Below the majors sit the integrated gas-and-welding regional player Nippon Sanso Singapore (formerly Leeden National Oxygen, Taiyo Nippon Sanso group) and, newest, Messer, which entered in 2026 by acquiring the cylinder/acetylene-focused WKS Group. Structural demand pull comes from three directions — the emerging hydrogen/ammonia economy (Air Liquide-Vopak import studies), carbon capture ambitions on Jurong Island, and rising electronic-specialty-gas demand from new semiconductor fabs. Genuinely SG-independent gas producers below this majors-plus-Leeden set are scarce; most remaining names are distributors, cylinder resellers or specialty-chemical traders rather than producers.

  • Air Products Singapore Industrial Gases

    Runs production at Sakra and Senoko and maintains an air-separation unit plus an extended pipeline network from Sakra to Tembusu on Jurong Island serving petrochemical customers. Its Senoko facility supplies helium and specialty gases into electronics, analytical, refining and offshore sectors. A wholly owned subsidiary of Air Products.
