Metal finishing and surface treatment in Singapore
Chemical and electrochemical processes that alter a metal surface for corrosion resistance, wear resistance or appearance. Includes electroplating, anodising, powder coating, passivation and phosphating over base metals. Buyers select on coating type, thickness specification, adhesion and industry certification.
Buyers of metal finishing evaluate a shop on its process menu and the specification it can hold. The workhorses are electroplating (gold, silver, tin, nickel, zinc, copper and alloys), electroless nickel for uniform deposition into blind holes and threads, anodising (Type II sulphuric, Type III hard-coat for aluminium), pickling and passivation to restore the chromium-oxide layer on stainless steel, powder coating and e-coating for corrosion barriers, and PVD (TiN, DLC, chrome nitride) for thin, hard films. What separates vendors is control of coating thickness (in µm), adhesion, hardness and uniformity across substrates — aluminium, stainless and tool steels, copper alloys, titanium, plastics. Evidence buyers demand: RoHS compliance, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, sometimes Nadcap or AMS/MIL specs, plus documented hydrogen de-embrittlement and salt-spray data.
In Singapore the trade clusters in the western belt — Tuas, Jurong (Lok Yang, Benoi), Joo Koon — with pockets in Ang Mo Kio, Ubi and Toa Payoh. It is a fragmented field of SME job-shops beneath a few larger and multinational operators, feeding semiconductor, electronics, precision engineering, medical devices, optics, marine and oil-and-gas work (the last driving large-part hard-chrome work).
