Piling and foundation engineering is the heavy-civil specialism beneath every deep basement, MRT station and reclamation project in Singapore, and it is gated by one credential above all: the BCA Contractors Registration System workhead CW02 (Piling Works), graded L1 to L6 by paid-up capital and track record, with L6 carrying no tender-value ceiling. A main contractor, the LTA or a developer reading a piling firm's record checks a specific stack: the CW02 grade; the owned rig fleet (large-diameter bored-piling rigs, hydraulic jack-in and driven-pile rigs, diaphragm-wall grabs and cutters); the breadth of method — bored piling, driven/precast piling, jack-in, ground improvement, diaphragm walls and ERSS (earth-retaining and stabilising structures) — and a deep-basement and MRT-tunnelling track record that proves the firm can work to LTA's civil-defence and instrumentation standards. Because the work is unforgiving and self-performed with heavy plant, capital and fleet depth separate the tier that can take a full MRT station box from the sub-contractors that install bored piles under someone else's main contract.

The field is two-tiered. At the top sit the multinational geotechnical specialists running Singapore operations — Bachy Soletanche Singapore (Soletanche Bachy / VINCI group; diaphragm walls and the Hydrofraise cutter; a fixture on MRT station and tunnel contracts) and Bauer Foundations Singapore (the German Bauer Group's specialist-foundation arm) — alongside the largest listed local group, CSC Holdings (SGX: C06), which self-performs the full range from large-diameter bored piles and diaphragm walls to ground improvement across roughly 1,500 staff in Singapore and Malaysia. Below them is a dense field of specialist local piling contractors — some listed (Kori Holdings, Ley Choon), most private (Ryobi Kiso, Antara Koh, Asia Piling, PSL Engineering, ZAP Piling) — plus CSC's own foundation subsidiaries. Three shifts drive demand: deeper basements in a land-scarce city pushing ERSS and diaphragm-wall scope; the continuing MRT build-out (Cross Island Line, Thomson-East Coast extensions) that is the LTA's steady pipeline for D-wall and bored-pile specialists; and ground improvement for reclamation and soft-soil sites, where surcharge, deep soil mixing and stone columns precede any structure.
