EDM services in Singapore
Electrical discharge machining removes electrically conductive material with controlled sparks, cutting hard metals and complex shapes without mechanical force. Wire EDM cuts profiles; sinker EDM burns cavities. Common for dies, moulds and hardened parts. Buyers select on tolerance, surface finish and material hardness.
Electrical discharge machining cuts metal not with a blade but with controlled electrical sparks, which is why buyers reach for it precisely where conventional cutting fails. Specification sheets turn on three families: wire EDM, which threads a fine brass wire to slice intricate through-profiles; sinker (die-sink) EDM, which burns a shaped electrode down to leave blind cavities, ribs and sharp internal corners no end mill can reach; and small-hole / fast-hole drilling for deep, high-aspect-ratio bores. What buyers evaluate is tolerance — the better Singapore shops quote ±0.002 mm on wire work — alongside surface finish down to a mirror sub-micron Ra, and the ability to hold fine features on unforgiving stock. Because EDM removes material by spark erosion, hardness is irrelevant: it machines hardened tool steels above HRC 60, tungsten carbide near HRA 92, and exotic alloys such as Inconel and titanium with no cutting stress and no burrs.
In Singapore, EDM is the quiet backbone of the tool-and-die trade and of high-value precision parts — nearly every serious mould maker and stamping-die house runs wire and sinker machines in-house. It clusters through Tuas, Woodlands, Ang Mo Kio and Bukit Batok, feeding mould and die, aerospace, semiconductor and medical-device work.
