Precision engineering is Singapore's densest industrial SME layer. The hub resolves into nine capabilities: CNC machining, tooling and moulds, sheet metal fabrication, plating and electrochemical finishing, heat treatment, industrial coating, calibration and measurement, ultra-high-purity piping and facility hook-up, and precision assembly.

Machining is the core. A capability audit verified 20 CNC machine shops without exhausting the field; the true population plausibly runs into the high hundreds. Most are owner-run subcontractors rather than listed groups, though the hub also carries SGX-listed names such as Micro-Mechanics and ST Engineering's precision products line.

The work is metal cut, formed, finished and measured to microns. Shops run 3-, 4- and 5-axis CNC milling and turning, wire-cut EDM and jig grinding; toolrooms build injection moulds, stamping dies, jigs and fixtures. Surface work covers electroplating, anodising, passivation and heat treatment. Calibration laboratories, most SAC-SINGLAS accredited, serve QA and compliance buyers rather than procurement.

The firms cluster in Singapore's western and eastern industrial estates — Tuas, Jurong, Kaki Bukit, Ubi and Loyang — supplying semiconductor equipment makers, aerospace MRO, medical device manufacturers and marine yards. This hub substantially is the supply chain that serves the semiconductor industry Singapore is known for.
