Buyers evaluating a robotics integrator are buying application engineering, not a robot. The robot arm — an ABB, FANUC, KUKA, Yaskawa or Universal Robots unit — is a commodity; the value is in the cell built around it. The questions that separate a serious integrator from a reseller are concrete: can they design the end-of-arm tooling (grippers, vacuum, weld torches) and the fixturing that presents the part repeatably? Can they close the loop with machine vision and sensing so the cell handles variation instead of failing on it? Can they engineer the safety envelope (guarding, light curtains, risk assessment) to the standard, and do the PLC and line interfacing so the cell talks to the rest of the factory? Can they do the robot programming and prove cycle time on real parts? A credible supplier shows a track record of commissioned cells — robotic welding, material handling, palletising, machine tending, assembly — not a catalogue of brands they stock. The frontier splits two ways: collaborative-robot (cobot) deployment for fenceless, fast-changeover tasks, and AMR/AGV fleet integration tied into WMS and MES for intralogistics.

Singapore's landscape is smaller and more distributor-heavy than its manufacturing base suggests: many firms badge themselves "robotics" while primarily reselling arms and cobots. The genuine cell integrators are the prize. A cluster of established houses — ATS Automation Asia, Motionwell, ASTech, Kowa Skymech and the ISDN / Servo Dynamics group — design and commission classic arm cells (palletising, SCARA and cobot assembly, CNC machine tending, cleanroom automation). A second cluster — Innogreen, Botsync, plus PBA — works the AMR/AGV and intralogistics side. The robot OEMs themselves sell and support arms here but are not integrators and sit outside this capability.
